As everyone is well aware, Mother’s Day just passed. My social media was filled with loving posts dedicated to celebrating all the Mom’s out there. Normally, I post a little paragraph saying how much I love my mother and my step mother. However, this year I want to really show them how much they mean to me. Here are my open letters to two of the world’s best mothers.
Wow, I want to say so much. It was literally you and me during the bulk of my life. We were each other’s rocks and I knew that no matter what, as long as I had you, everything would work out.
I want to thank you for supporting me every year that I decided to participate in the school musical and choir. For all of my Elementary years, those were the two things I fell in love with. You helped to purchase everything I needed for my costumes, you would listen to me rehearse my songs, you came to every opening night, you came to every concert and you boasted to friends and family to support me. You have no idea how much that means to me looking back.
I want to thank you for being apart of my Girl Scout experiences. Unlike most, you wanted to be a Scout Mom. This is crazy to me because you worked full time and still helped plan events, camping trips and more. Those memories were some of my best memories because of how involved you were. Thank you for also aiding me in becoming the top seller of our troop several years in a row. I really couldn’t have done it all without you.
I want to thank you for helping me get into the school of my dreams. I know we both remember how grueling of a process it all was. We knew that several people had attempted to get in, and failed. I was shocked that out of 30 people who auditioned for the same spot that I was 1 out of 2 people that got in. It was all thanks to you. You chose the song I would sing, you listened to me practice it over and over again, you made sure everything was ready for my big audition day and it paid off. Big time.
I want to thank you for teaching me independence. You taught me things like laundry, the value of money, time management and cleaning at a young age. Even if I didn’t always listen, I now use that knowledge every day. In my eyes, you were a living embodiment of success and you didn’t rely on anyone else’s help to achieve it. You were the best role model I could have asked for.
I want to thank you for being the person I call when things are great and when things fall apart. Knowing that you are only one phone call away is a relief to me most days. You listen to me, you empathize with me and you give me all the advice I need to keep moving forward. I don’t think there is anyone else that can match the amount of things you’ve helped me through emotionally. That’s incredible, especially because you don’t even live in the same state as me.
I know that moving to Arizona was the best decision for me 5 years ago, and I want to thank you for being strong enough to give me a chance to experience change. A change in environment, a change in lifestyles and a change within myself. Without your encouragement, I wouldn’t have been able to adapt like I have. I will never forget the tremendous time and effort you gave to make me the woman I am today. I can promise you that. You are my rock through everything and I am lucky to have you.
To Show My Appreciation
For my mother I wanted to get her something that was more personalized. I looked on Etsy for some nice gifts and I came across this Spa Box. I loved it, especially because I got to have her name printed on the box itself. I then found this necklace and loved it. It seemed very much her style and I got to write a cute little note. I know she will enjoy both!
You are one of the most incredible women I have met in my life. I know that technically you are my step mom, but I definitely see you as another Mother. After all, you’re Mom-T.
I want to thank you for loving me like I was your own. You have been apart of my life since I was two. Since then, you have always taken care of me, cared about my safety, put in the effort and gave guidance as if you were my mother. That is not something that anyone can do and it definitely wasn’t something you were obligated to do. Which makes it mean so much more.
I want to thank you for helping me get back on track when I was struggling the most. You took a special interest in my academics and that was something I had a really tough time navigating at first. You even helped me to prepare my projects by finding unique ways to do them. It gave me the inspiration to put in just as much effort and honestly, my GPA will thank me for it every day.
I want to thank you for supporting my music endeavors. My mom grew that passion since I was young and you made sure that it continued to grow as long as I wanted it. You even helped to shoot one of my very first music videos. Considering you, my dad and my brother are all sports fanatics, it was really cool that you wanted to see me succeed in something I loved to do at the time.
I want to thank you for making the transition from one lifestyle to another easier. It was a lot to take in when I first moved here, I didn’t feel comfortable at all. You knew that and instead of beating around it, you faced it head on. You introduced me to potential friends, the Church and made me feel less like a stranger every single day. Honestly, I love living here. I have experienced a lot here and I know that a lot of it is thanks to you.
I want to thank you for your insight. You have given me a lot of advice on what it means to be a woman. Whether it’s in public, at work or even in relationships. The lessons and metaphors I get from you are incredibly wise. Talking with you really allows me to challenge my perspective on life and how I can take charge of it. That is something that really means a lot to me because it can be so confusing to try and figure it out all out on my own.
I want to thank you for allowing me to have the relationship I have with you. More recently, we have gotten a lot closer. Unlike a typical mother/daughter relationship, we have both had to put in the effort to make it as special as it is. I am happy to be a part of your life. No matter what happens in the future, I hope that we will always be as close as we are now. You are definitely someone that I never want to lose.

My Step Mom has been looking to get a plant holder for a while. When I found this out, I had her send me some suggestions of what she wanted. None of them seemed to really fit her style until I came across this one! Of course I also got her some plant holders and she bought some plants. Here is the final result, I was happy to know she loved it.
